Kandy District Youth Rapid 2010 - Report

The National Youth Rapid Chess Championship 2010 began in great style at the National Institute of Co-operative Development on the 26th of May 2010. Over 250 players took part in the Qualifying event for the Kandy District in the Under 07, 09, 11, 13 and 15 age groups. The tournaments were conducted as Boys (Open) and Girls sections. The tournaments were keenly contested.

As part of promoting the event the launch of the Official T-shirt of the National Youth Rapid Cycle 2010 also took place. Profits from the sale of these would also be channeled to purchasing the clocks.

Wayamba Province Youth Rapid 2010 - Report

Wayamba Provincial event of the National Youth Rapid Chess Championship 2010 was successfully conducted at St. Anne’s College, Kurunegalla on Sunday the 27th of May 2010. The tournaments were conducted as Boys (Open) and Girls sections in the Under 07, 09, 11, 13 and 15 age groups. . The 196 participants keenly contested in the 10 sections.

Speaking at the price distributions ceremony Mr. Naditha Amarakoon explained the reasons why Mr. Rajeendra Kalagamptiya and his team of organizers took up the challenge of organizing this year’s Youth Rapid Cycle. The profits from the event would be used to purchase clocks for the CFSL, which will help the young players. Mr. Verochana Perera, Hony. Treasurer of the CFSL chaired the Prize Distirbution Ceremony.
